  • 1 cooking apple, peeled and sliced
  • 1 large onion, peeled and sliced
  • seasoning
  • approx 100ml cider
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • knob butter

  1. Turn the slow cooker onto low. Heat a fry pan with a little oil and add the onions. Cook until translucent. Add the apple.
  2. Spinkle over the sugar, add some seasoning, stir and sweat down for about 5 minutes. Pour over the cider and bring to the boil.
  3. Place the onion/apple/cider mixture into the slow cooker. Season both sides of the chops and place on top of the mixture in the slow cooker.
  4. Cover and cook for approx 6 hours. Turn once if possible half way.
  5. Just before ready to serve, plate up the chops and add a knob of butter into the sauce with the apple and onion and mix well. Pour over the chops and serve.


Also nice with creme fraiche stirred into the sauce.

Have cooked this a few times now and can highly recommend this recipe as per the recipe. It's now part of our repertoire. Thank you. We have experimented with Pinot Gris instead of cider and added cinnamon,ginger,garlic and nutmeg and cooked on high for 4hrs then low for 2hrs. We fry the chops to caramelise first,2-3 mins each side full heat. Also make twice the onion and apple sauce and freeze the extra for pork chops. Yum.-19 Jun 2013

  • 3 / 4 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1 / 2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1 / 2 cup chicken or beef broth
  • 1 medium onion, chopped

Easy Slow Cooker Pork Chops and Gravy


Place flour, poultry seasoning and salt into a zip-top plastic bag and shake to mix. Add chops and shake until they are lightly coated.

Heat a heavy skillet large enough to hold all the chops over medium high heat, adding the oil until it shimmers. Place the chops into the pan and saute 2 - 3 minutes per side until golden brown.

Remove chops from the pan and, still on the heat, add 2 tablespoons flour mixture from the plastic bag into the skillet, stirring a few seconds to cook the flour. Add about ½ cup of the broth to the skillet and cook and stir to lift any browned bits from the pan. Add the remaining broth to the pan and turn off the heat. Reserve the remaining flour mixture for later.

Place the onion into the bottom of the slow cooker and lay the pork chops on top. Pour the liquids from the pan over the chops, cover and cook on high 2 hours.

Open the cooker and ladle out about ¼ cup of the resulting juices into a small bowl. Stir in the remaining flour mixture from the plastic bag into the juices until completely smooth. Return this mixture to the slow cooker, stirring to mix. Cover and continue to cook 30- 45 more minutes.

Serve with mashed potatoes, using the sauce in the pot as gravy.

I was going to an appointment so I cooked these on low for 4 hours (instead of high for 2 hours). I also first browned the onions because I always feel browned onions bring a wonderful flavor. No other changes were made and it was SO DELICIOUS. The pork was so succulent and tasty from the seasonings and chicken stock (broth). Gorgeous!

The plastic bag really makes this recipe so much easier than going through the many steps it normally takes to dredge and bread the pork chops. and how clever to continue using the remaining flour for the gravy up until the very end. Cleanup isn't such a chore and the slow cooker pretty much does all of the work for you. This is no doubt a win win in my book!

If i don't have any broth in the house is there a substitution that i could use in place of the broth, and i don't have poultry seasoning,can i substitute some other kind of seasoning for that? Please Reply back!

Chicken Broth Substitute: For 1 cup broth, substitute 1 bouillon cube or 1 teaspoon instant bouillon granules per 1 cup water. Poultry seasoning substitute: For 1 teaspoon, substitute 3/4 teaspoon dried sage plus a 1/4 teaspoon blend of any of these: dried thyme, dried marjoram, dried savory, ground black pepper, and dried rosemary. If you don't have those ingredients/things in your home either, these may not be helpful, but those are some substitution options!

These pork chops sound delicious. I like the idea of the coating. I love pork chops but they do need spicing up as they can be bland. This seems the perfect way to do that. I also like my slow cooker and am collecting recipes. I am definitely adding this to my collection!

Making a coating and shaking the pork chops makes me think of Shake and Bake from when I was a kid. Sometimes my mom would buy that for pork chops and they were always juicy and really good. Definitely have to serve this with mashed potatoes. That is what gravy for. You could also make some biscuits to sop up the gravy.

This recipe sounds great, and like others have mentioned it sounds like the pork chops would stay nice and moist this way, instead of drying out as they often do. The ingredients and flavours in this recipe sound really good, and I bet my family would love this. The recipe says to cook on high for 2 hours, but could I cook for longer on low? This way I could make this during the week and come home to a tasty dinner after work!

This sounds like a great way to make pork chops. Sometimes chops can be dry, so this would keep them moist. My slow cooker has a browning function, so the crispy brownness would stay in the cooker and add to the deliciousness. Yes, I will serve them with mashed potatoes and a side vegetable.

This is a nice and simple pork chop recipe with a good, hearty flavor! Some recipes are so busy with too many ingredients. I like this one because you can dress up the plate with fancy side dishes like vegetables, rice, or potatoes.

I made this for dinner tonight and IT WAS DELICIOUS. I only made 3 chops and kept the remaining of the recipe original. At the time to thicken the gravy, I added 7 strips of 1/4" green bell peppers and added a bit more chicken stock so that the gravy wouldn't end up too thick. The next time I make this, which will be soon, I will add finely diced fresh mushrooms, 1/4" strips of red and green bell peppers, pressed fresh garlic and a pea size dollop of red pepper paste (hot) for a little heat. I will let you know how it turns out.

Is it possible to double the recipe by layering it?

Yep use Butt chops, then do the same recipe. I simply throw Butt chops, 2 cans of Campbells Mushroom soup and a about 1/8 cup of milk ( I mix the soup and Milk) I salt and pepper the chops, brown them in a frying pan, then put them in the slow cooker. Then i pour the Soup/milk mix over, cook on low for 7 1/2. I serve this over rice, but egg noodles could be used as well.

No way do you use lean (& costly) cuts of meat in a slow cooker. Use blade chops or other cheaper cuts.

Yum! This turned out so flavorful and moist with a perfect blend of herbs and spices! I added a layer each of baby carrots, potatoes, and string beans on top of the chops. I don't eat dairy, so I substituted the butter with avocado oil and added extra once the vegetables were layered. It's a keeper!

just one small problem i think there is a typo on paprika think it should say teaspoon not tablespoon it blew our heads had to calm it down with my gravy and not the juice from slow cooker even so still very hot but could tell this will be fantastic when i adjust it really i am not a wimp (anyone need a hotair ballon inflating)

You are correct. You can adjust the seasonings to your taste, of course, but we have adjusted the paprika amount to 1 teaspoon.

It was ok I would increase the liquid..some chops came out dry. Onions had a goo flavor.

I have made these twice. I like a creamier sauce, so I added a can of cream of chicken soup. Also added potatoes and carrots later on in the cooking process. Delicious!

The comments that people are making regarding this recipe have me shaking my head. My mother always told me to read the recipe twice before I actually begin to cook. It's also helpful, as one person suggested, to gather all of the ingredients before one begins to actually cook the recipe. This will allow you to be organized. And if the recipe writer throws you a curve ball, like for instance adding the ingredients not in the order they are listed, you'll be ready for it. These comments about standing the pork chops up are hilarious. Just read the recipe and disregard the comments unless they are regarding improving the recipe or etc. These people have me cracking up. It's just a recipe people, not rocket science. This is my second time making these. This recipe is a keeper. Moist and flavorful chops.

Depending on how much chops you use. I had about 60 ounces and divided it up into 7 servings. It was 516 cals per serving (2 carbs/21 fat/74 protein).

Made these for the second time, my husband and I love them! They are so moist and delicious.

Made this tonight and my picky husband and I both LOVED it! I omitted the sage and used 1/2 t. rosemary instead and didn't use parsley. (And if you flip the meat over prior to serving, it does pretty much look like the picture.) I think this would also be great with a pork tenderloin and maybe even chicken!

Read the directions w/the recipe. It does not tell you to stand the chops on end. One reader suggested standing potatoes on end as a nice side. Repeat: do not stand the chops on end.

rule of thumb, just always read entire recipe before starting and have your ingredients ready to mix up. Prep work only takes a few minutes. Sounds very flavorful. Happy cooking

I always wish that recipes would list the ingredients in the same order as they instructions tell you to use them. This one starts out telling you to melt the butter, 3rd on the list, and whisk together with the broth, 9th on the list, and the seasonings. Then put the onions, #2 on the list, and garlic, way down at #10. It's just frustrating to me to have to search for the ingredients on the list as they tell me what to do with them. Am I the only one with this issue?

Come on people. Don't read anything into this recipe. I says nothing in the contents of the instructions to stand your chops. SO DON"T STAND YOUR CHOPS! Just follow the recipe as written. This looks delicious and I am going to make it tomorrow.

I guess I am confused by all the comments about the pork chops "standing". I don't see where that is mentioned in the recipe I ma looking at. And it does call for broth. Am I looking at the same recipe?

I agree. I think it seems simplier then they are making it. u put the chops right in the butter & garlic! No standing time needed, if were talking about the same recipe.

It is crazy how many tried to help explain just how to stand the pork chops up yet still have so many confused. I absolutely love this recipe & have made it 3x's now. I do sprinkle my chops with seasonings my family prefer then brown them before putting them into the crock pot. I make sure for this recipe I buy nice quality thick cut chops then slice a small slit down the middle opposite the fat. Then all is left is to put them in with the fat up & layer in the onions & butter. I have even thrown in some diced apples which makes this so divine. It also helps to be sure they all fit in snugly into your crock if they aren't thick enough to stand on their own.

A picture of placement in the slow cooker would have been helpful. Tried this recipe, and while the chops were tender and tasted good they did not have the lovely brown color as in your picture. Rather pale and not particularly appetizing looking.

Buy pork chops thick enough for stuffing and slice them or have them slice to stuff them and place them standing them up in your slow cooker witht the thin sides down and them standing up place the onions on top of them and place the buter on top of the onions and etc. that is whqt they mean by standing them up. I use the can't believe it is not butter and also SRAY IT ON DURING COOKING Hope that helps Cathy

8/25/10 Well looks like they corrected the recipe. that's good. as I also was wondering what they meant when they said stand chops up on the thin end . you would really need thick chops to stand them up, then it says slice onions on top. How can you slice onions on top when you stand them up in the slow cooker. Someone needs to really read these recipes before posting them. I wonder, do they try them first before they post them. Just in case an ingredient was left out. I never make the recipe right away just in case someone left them out. I haven't made them yet, but plan on this weekend. but I was only doing 3 chops. going to be hard to pile onions on top of 3 chops that are standing up eh. we'll see what happens.

I think what thin side down means is if the pork chops have a bone put the bone part up, or else just put them standing thin part up any way without the bone.

Everyone is asking the same question, what the heck does, "thin side down" mean. How do you stand a chop up at all? With onions on top of it? And butter on top of that? Please. this is a very stupid way of writing a recipe.

I made this recipe yesterday, it was very good despite the onions I forgot to put in. I used natural seasonings (no salt) and pepper. The meat was fork tender, with a delicious flavor. I stood the butterfly chop so that the fat was on top, as it cooked it flowed over the meat. This one is a keeper!

I made this last night for dinner and it was terrible. No one in my family liked it. The texture of the meat was dry, the taste bland (although at least the onions tasted good) and overall very disappointing. I knew it sounded too easy/good to be true. Very disappointed.

thin side down would be standing the chops with the side with the rim of fat up. the thin side of the chop is the side without fat. this way, the fat can brown the chop as it melts down.

Sounds delicious but I also would like to know what thin side down means.

The recipe sounds wonderful but we would still love to know what "standing up on the thin side" means. Is it standing it up on the bone, or the opposite side of the bone or where the butchers knife went south? Very confusing! And low would be about 200 degrees if you cooked it in the oven? . Don't have a crockpot. Thanks, Y'all.

7) Representations, Warranties and Indemnities. You represent and warrant to Prime Publishing and its Affiliates that (a) you have the right, power, and authority necessary to enter into this Agreement, to fully perform your obligations hereunder, and to grant the licenses set forth in Paragraphs 3 and 5 above, (b) you will comply fully with all terms of this Agreement, (c) the Materials submitted to Prime Publishing by you, and Prime Publishing's and its Affiliates' exercise of their rights hereunder, do not and will not violate, misappropriate or infringe any intellectual property right, including but not limited to trademark rights, copyrights, moral rights and publicity rights of any third party, (d) you possess all rights necessary for the reproduction, distribution, transmission, public performance, public display, and other exploitation of the Materials by Prime Publishing and its Affiliates as permitted hereunder, (e) the Materials are not pornographic, obscene, libelous, defamatory, tortious, or otherwise unlawful, and (f) all factual statements submitted by you are accurate and not misleading. You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold Prime Publishing and its Affiliates harmless from all claims, liabilities, damages, and expenses (including, without limitation, reasonable attorneys' fees and expenses) arising from your breach of any representation or warranty set forth in this paragraph.

8) Restrictions. You agree that you will not submit Materials that are unlawful, pornographic, libelous, defamatory, tortious, obscene, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable, or that otherwise violate general Prime Publishing community standards. We expressly reserve the right to remove or not make available any Materials that we deem to be in violation of this Agreement, applicable laws or our community standards in our sole discretion. You agree that you will not upload, post, e-mail or otherwise transmit Materials to us or our Affiliates that contain software viruses or any other computer code, files, or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment.

9) No Obligation. Although we have the right to include your Materials in the Service or in any Media, we do not have the obligation to do so. We may, in our sole discretion and for any reason, refuse the Materials or remove them from our Service at any time.

10) Changes to Agreement. We reserve the right to change any of the terms of this Agreement or any Specifications or Guidelines governing the Service at any time in our sole discretion. All changes will be effective upon posting to the Service. However, for all changes to this Agreement, excluding Specifications and Guidelines, we will post a notice of change for thirty (30) days. You are responsible for reviewing the notice and any applicable changes. YOUR CONTINUED USE OF THIS SERVICE FOLLOWING OUR POSTING OF ANY CHANGES WILL CONSTITUTE YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF SUCH CHANGES.

11) Prime Publishing Intellectual Property. Without our prior written consent, you may not use our intellectual property, including, without limitation, our trademarks, trade names, trade dress, or copyrighted material, in any manner.

12) Communications. Prime Publishing and its Affiliates may communicate with you in connection with the Service, electronically and in other Media, and you consent to such communications regardless of any "Customer Communication Preferences" (or similar preferences or requests) you may have indicated on the web sites of Prime Publishing or its Affiliates or by any other means.



15) Miscellaneous. This Agreement will be governed by the laws of the United States of America and the state of Washington, without reference to rules governing choice of laws. Any action relating to this Agreement must be brought in the federal or state courts located in Seattle, Washington, and you irrevocably consent to the jurisdiction of such courts. You may not assign this Agreement, by operation of law or otherwise, without our prior written consent. Subject to that restriction, this Agreement will be binding on, inure to, and be enforceable against the parties and their respective successors and permitted assigns. Our failure to enforce your strict performance of any provision of this Agreement will not constitute a waiver of our right to enforce such provision or any other provision of this Agreement subsequently. The Specifications and Guidelines (including all future changes) are incorporated by reference into this Agreement. This Agreement is in addition to, and does not supersede or modify, the terms and conditions of use of the web sites of Prime Publishing and its Affiliates.

Sharing Your Own Images

You! Anyone who is a registered and logged in user.

Please share images that will help other visitors. For example:

  • Images that highlight a article's features ("Here are the controls on this music player", "See the clasp for this necklace", "Look at the box this came in")
  • Images showing someone using a product ("Here I am wearing this scarf", "Install the ink cartridge here")
  • Images related to a topic ("My dog Skipper", "A great outfit", "Our family at Yellowstone", "How to glue a chair using a cabinet clamp")
  • Images that show how a product performs ("I took this picture with this camera", "This shirt shrunk in the wash", "The saw blade after 100 cuts")
  • Images that give a sense of the size of the product ("This refrigerator is actually 6' tall", "A cellphone the size of a credit card")

Do include captions for your images. While not required, they provide context for your images. Additionally, you can use the Image Notes feature to highlight one or more interesting areas in your image. Everyone will see your notes when they roll over your image.

What shouldn't I share?

Behave as if you were a guest at a friend's dinner party: please treat the Prime Publishing community with respect. Do not share:

  • Profane, obscene, or spiteful images, or any images with nudity
  • Images to which you do not own the intellectual property rights
  • Images featuring phone numbers, mail addresses, or URLs. You can watermark an image with copyright information.
  • Images featuring availability, price, or alternative ordering/shipping information
  • Images featuring external Web sites, contests, or other solicitations
  • Any personal information about children under 13
  • Images with automobile license plates that are prominent and easily read (pictures with license plates that have been fuzzed out or that otherwise cannot be read are acceptable).

The same guidelines apply to your captions and notes.

What image formats and sizes are supported?

We support JPEG, GIF and PNG images. Files must be no more than 1MB. Both the image height and the image width must be between 60 and 3500 pixels.

Instead of uploading an image, can I just enter a link to an image?

No, all images must be uploaded to Prime Publishing. This ensures your image is always available.

How long does it take to upload an image?

The time varies depending on the speed of your Internet connection and the size of the image file. For a 400KB image, for example, you should expect 2 to 4 minutes over a 56KB modem and under 1 minute for DSL or cable modem.

Where will my image appear?

Generally your image will appear where you uploaded it: in the article image gallery.

Who owns the images I upload?

The rights owner of the image continues to own the image uploading your image to Prime Publishing does not transfer ownership.

How to make:

You will need these ingredients:

  • Boneless pork chops
  • Cooking oil for browning the chops
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Brown sugar
  • Salt and pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Sweet yellow onion
  • Salted butter

Add a small amount of cooking oil to a pan on the stove top and brown the pork chops, no need to cook these completely.

Add the Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, salt, pepper, garlic powder and red pepper flakes to the bottom of the slow cooker.

Add the pork chops and flip them around the sauce to coat. Add the sweet yellow onion and place the butter on top.

Cook on LOW for 6 hours for tender chops. The edges where the onions sit get caramelized and the sauce has slow cooked to perfection at this point.

Such a great meal for any night of the week! The chops turn out very tender in this recipe.

  • 6 or 7 pork chops bone in or out
  • 3 red delicious apples cored and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar
  • 1 onion julienned
  • 1 teaspoon of thyme
  • 2 teaspoons of salt divided (or as desired)
  • 1 teaspoon of ground black pepper divided (or as desired)
  • 2 teaspoons of ground sage divided
  • 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
  • 32 oz of unsalted chicken stock
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3 tablespoons oil


In a large bowl season pork chops with 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of sage and ½ teaspoon of black pepper.

Add two tablespoons of oil to a pan over medium high heat.

Once the oil is hot, add pork chops (3-4 at a time) to pan.

Brown pork chops, 3-4 minutes per side, flipping only once.

Meanwhile, layer the slices of two apples to the bottom of the crock pot. Once pork chops are browned, layer pork chops over apple slices.

Once pork chops are removed, lower heat to low/medium. With the reserved juice of the pork chops and one tablespoon of additional oil, add in the onions and cook until softened, about 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Layer cooked onions over the pork chops in crock pot.

Add remaining ingredients to crockpot, cover and cook on low 4-5 hours or high for 2-3 hours.

  • 6 pork chops
  • 1 can (20 ounces) pineapple chunks with juice
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • Optional Garnish: Fresh or canned pineapple chunks
  • Optional Garnish: Fresh chopped cilantro

Put pork chops in a plastic zip-close food storage bag.

Combine the remaining ingredients pour over the pork chops in the bag.

Seal the bag and refrigerate overnight.

Drain the liquids into a saucepan. Place the saucepan over high heat and bring to a full boil.

Put the chops in the slow cooker pour the hot liquids over them and cook for 5 to 7 hours, or until the chops are done. The minimum safe temperature for pork—USDA guidelines—is 145 F.

The marinated pork chops are also great grilled or broiled. Bring the pineapple marinade to a full boil and use it to baste the chops.

Serve pork chops with some fresh pineapple chunks and a garnish of chopped fresh cilantro, if desired.

Glass Bakeware Warning

Do not use glass bakeware when broiling or when a recipe calls to add liquid to a hot pan, as glass may explode. Even if it states oven-safe or heat resistant, tempered glass products can, and do, break occasionally.

How to Make Crock Pot Pork Chops

Here’s an overview of the steps to making this recipe. You’ll find the full ingredient list and instructions in the recipe card below.

  1. Mix the seasonings together and rub them over all sides of the pork chops.
  2. In a skillet, heat the butter and olive oil. Brown the pork chops on both sides.
  3. Sauté the onion and mushrooms until soft. Cook the garlic for 30 seconds, until aromatic.
  4. Then stir in the flour and chicken broth.
  5. Cook for a few minutes until thickened. Stir and scrape up any flavorful browned bits stuck to the bottom of the pan.
  6. Transfer the skillet contents to the slow cooker. Put the pork chops into the gravy in the crock pot.
  7. Cover and cook on low until pork chops are cooked through.
  8. If desired, you can further thicken the gravy with a cornstarch slurry. Transfer the pork chops to a clean plate and cover to keep them warm. Stir a mixture of 1 tablespoon cornstarch and 1 tablespoon water into the gravy in the slow cooker. Cook on the slow cooker’s high setting for 15-20 minutes.

2 large Granny Smith apples (or other apple), peeled and sliced
1 large onion, sliced
4 pork chops
1 can (10.75 ounce size) cream of mushroom soup
1/2 packet onion mushroom soup mix
1/4 cup water
1/4 apple juice
ground nutmeg to taste
ground cinnamon to taste

Place the apples and onion on the bottom of the crock pot. Place the pork chops on top.

In a bowl, combine the mushroom soup, soup mix, water, and apple juice until blended. Pour over the pork chops.

Sprinkle the chops with nutmeg and cinnamon.

Cover the crock pot and cook on low heat for 6-8 hours or until the pork is cooked through. Serve the chops with the vegetables and gravy.

Are These Slow Cooker Keto Pork Chops

This recipe CAN be keto, and it is certainly low carb, if make a few adjustments.

The first trick to make sure that this recipe fits into your daily carbohydrate allowance is to make sure to buy tomato sauce with NO sugar added.

Second, substitute the canned peaches for fresh or frozen peaches. Then, add an extra ½ cup water to the sauce to make up for the canned peach liquid the recipe calls for.

Finally, soy sauce can be used (sparingly) in a keto diet, so technically it is okay to use. However, you can use liquid amino instead.
